چکیده

We have applied the non-adiabatic phase matrix method for vibrational scattering processes to a system which supports an extremely broad (short-lived) shape resonance. This method provides a unified, systematic treatment of the range of physical effects that influence the collision as the nuclear geometry varies, from strongly resonant to purely background scattering. For this implementation we have chosen the prototypical 6u shape resonance in e–H2 scattering below 10 eV. We compare vibrational cross sections 0 → 1 and 0 → 2 from the present non-adiabatic theory to results from fully converged body-frame vibrational closecoupling calculations and from purely adiabatic studies using the energy modified approximation.

Vibrational excitation in low-energy electron scattering by 2 molecules physisorbed on a metal surface

The electron impact vibrational excitation of H2 molecules physisorbed on a free-electron metal surface is studied theoretically at collision energies of a few eV. The role of the short-lived low-lying 2Su resonance is investigated. The electron scattering by a free H2 molecule is described by the R-matrix method and the corresponding results are used to model the electron scattering by the phy...

Non-adiabatic couplings and dynamics in proton transfer reactions of Hn (+) systems: Application to H2+H2 (+)→H+H3 (+) collisions.

Analytical derivatives and non-adiabatic coupling matrix elements are derived for Hn (+) systems (n = 3-5). The method uses a generalized Hellmann-Feynman theorem applied to a multi-state description based on diatomics-in-molecules (for H3 (+)) or triatomics-in-molecules (for H4 (+) and H5 (+)) formalisms, corrected with a permutationally invariant many-body term to get high accuracy. The analy...

Atom trapping in deeply bound states of a far-off-resonance optical lattice

We form a one-dimensional optical lattice for Cs atoms using light tuned a few thousand linewidths below atomic resonance. Atoms are selectively loaded into deeply bound states by adiabatic transfer from a superimposed, near-resonance optical lattice. This yields a mean vibrational excitation n̄'0.3 and localization Dz 'l/20. Light scattering subsequently heats the atoms, but the initial rate is...

Post-critical Behavior of Three- dimensional Composite Beams Near the Autoparametric Resonance under Flapwise Excitation

The bifurcation analysis of a composite beam subjected to harmonic flapwise base excitation is studied when the ratio of flapwise and chordwise internal resonances is 1:2. Results are obtained by the numerical solution of modulation equations. Chracteristics of the response are investigated in terms of time history, phase portraits diagrams and bifurcation diagram of poincare maps. It is observ...

Importance of nonresonant scattering in low-energy dissociative electron attachment to molecular hydrogen.

A central premise of nearly all theories of dissociative electron attachment is that this process is resonance driven. Neglect of nonresonant scattering, although appropriate for electron-molecule systems with narrow (long-lived) resonances, is problematic for the e-H2 system, which has one of the broadest known resonances. Using the nonadiabatic phase-matrix method we have found that at energi...
